Wooden Spool Side Table

He said:

This was a nice spool. So, why not cut it in half and double the niceness!? The cut was actually a bit of a challenge. First, I had to find a line that avoided the nails as much as possible — the saw doesn’t like them. Then, I had to make sure the cut was close to straight. There are actually metal rods that hold the ends together so the wood across the middle actually just free floats in tracks on the end. With it cut in half, I had to fasten each slat to the end piece. This one didn’t have the cool markings so I sanded it all down nice and good and gave it the dark Jacoben stain treatment. There was no particular plan with this so it just sat in the garage for a while until additional table space was needed in the house. I think this one may have found a permanent home. I really like the function of these because you don’t run into square corners jutting out into the walkway.

This side table is so cool. Seriously. After he made it and it was stained, it sat in the garage until I had an open house for my Pampered Chef stuff. I needed more display surface, so I asked him to bring it in. It fits nice and snug along the wall between our kitchen and dining room…and now it lives there.
