The saddest part about our wedding day for me was the fact that my grandfathers weren’t able to share it with us. They both passed away five years ago (eight months apart). Grandpa (my mom’s dad) actually walked me down the aisle at my first wedding, and it broke my heart that he couldn’t do it again. I wanted so badly to have them with me. I decided to add a locket to my bouquet, so that I could carry them with me. I stamped “anchor into love” on a metal blank, which echoes the memorial tattoo I have for them, and assembled that and a tiny metal heart onto a plain locket. Knowing they were right there with me all day meant the world to me.

Brianna regularly tells me stories of her grandfathers and how much of a rock they were/are in her life. I unfortunately never got to meet them but she says I’m a lot Grandpa and that he’d really like me. When I had the opportunity to visit his home in PA, I saw why: radial arm saw, lathe, scroll saw, bandsaw, planer, router table drill press, vac system, clamps, bits, blades, boards, and stain! As similar (and awesome) as those things and activities are, I think Brianna admires the internal qualities more. I’m glad both of these guys were able to be close during our wedding and I hope they know how cherished and loved their little girl still is here on Earth.
