Our twelve-year-old is quirky and I love it. When we were asking her what she wanted for her 12th birthday, she kept saying she wanted an alpaca. My hilarious husband, always the jokester, decided to give her one. Made of wood. He found a silhouette image online, busted out the ol’ router, and voila! She had herself an alpaca. I’m pretty sure it was her favorite birthday gift of all.

When a person requests an alpaca for their birthday, you don’t really expect to get one. Well, fortunately (or unfortunately?) this young lady didn’t specify that it be a living alpaca, ha! And that’s extra funny because she’s always the one to catch someone on a technicality like that. So, this was the perfect opportunity to try out the new to me 10” band saw. The saw has definitely seen its better days but it was functional and just needed some cleanup and adjusting. This is actually the first time I’ve ever used a bandsaw so I was learning on the fly. It was fun! Though, this is a piece probably better suited to be done on a scroll saw — but I don’t have one of those. In the end, her big ‘ol smile and look of astonishment — that she got an alpaca for her birthday — was priceless!
