I adore my mother in law. She’s seriously THE BEST. I always try to make her gifts that are useful but beautiful. For Mother’s Day this year, I had been tinkering around with wire working and had started creating these cool hammered-wire hearts. I asked Dustin to create a block-ish stand for me and he whipped it out, complete with easel back. I painted and distressed it, added the photo-clip heart and a small plaque that reads “family” — and it turned out to be a really pretty photo frame! Or, well, photo holder.

Working together with my wife to make gifts is one of the most fulfilling and beautiful ways we come together. My left brain can measure, cut, and assemble ad nauseum but the beautiful artistry that my wife seemingly effortlessly produces is astounding. In my most inspired moment I couldn’t draw a heart let alone bend one from wire — especially one with as much character and life as this one! I set this down on the table and went back out to the garage to clean up. By time I came back inside it had this incredible finish on it. She amazes me! This is one is special because not only was it a gift for my amazing mother, it also exemplifies my wife’s creativity and spirit.
